These Terms of Use set out the basic rules governing the use of the uyghurify.com website and the digital content published or provided by Uyghurify.

By using the website, you acknowledge that you have read these Terms and, where applicable, agree to be bound by them.

1. About Uyghurify

Uyghurify is an independent project that aims to document and make visible the stories of Uyghurs in the homeland and across the diaspora through modern storytelling methods.

Uyghurify may produce and publish stories, news reports, interviews, short-form videos, mini-documentaries, fact-checking content, archival materials, and similar publications.

2. Nature of the Website Content

Uyghurify makes reasonable efforts to ensure that its content is accurate, up to date, and reliable.

However:

  • published information may contain errors or omissions,

  • information may become outdated over time,

  • content may be updated when new information or evidence becomes available,

  • news or fact-checking content may be corrected or revised.

Content published by Uyghurify does not constitute legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice.

3. Editorial Independence

Uyghurify may make independent editorial decisions regarding the selection, format, title, presentation, research, and evaluation of content in accordance with its own editorial principles.

Submitting content or a story does not guarantee publication.

Uyghurify reserves the right to:

  • decline to publish a submission,

  • request additional information,

  • conduct verification,

  • remove or alter certain details for safety reasons,

  • anonymize identifying information,

  • reject content for legal or ethical reasons.

4. Copyright and Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, intellectual property rights in content produced by Uyghurify, including:

  • texts,

  • research,

  • images,

  • designs,

  • videos,

  • audio recordings,

  • graphics,

  • logos,

  • website design,

  • and original editorial content

belong to Uyghurify or the relevant rights holders.

Unless otherwise indicated, Uyghurify content may be shared to a reasonable extent provided that:

  • the source is clearly credited,

  • a link to the original content is provided,

  • the content is not misleadingly altered,

  • it is not used for commercial purposes.

Prior permission may be required to republish an entire Uyghurify article, video, or other work on another website, publication, or platform.

The Uyghurify name or logo may not be used in a manner that suggests Uyghurify endorses or supports a person, organization, product, service, or opinion unless such endorsement has been expressly authorized.

5. Rights in Stories and Materials You Submit

Submitting a story, article, photograph, video, audio recording, or other material to Uyghurify does not automatically transfer your copyright or other intellectual property rights to Uyghurify.

To the extent that the relevant rights legally belong to you, they remain yours.

If you approve publication of your content, you grant Uyghurify a non-exclusive license, limited to the agreed scope, to:

  • edit the content,

  • translate it,

  • prepare subtitles,

  • publish it on the Uyghurify website,

  • share it on Uyghurify social media accounts,

  • retain it in the project archive,

  • use reasonable excerpts for promotional purposes.

Where reasonably possible, significant editorial changes will be shared with the storyteller before publication.

6. Consent of the Storyteller

A core principle of Uyghurify is that personal stories are published with the knowledge and consent of the storyteller.

When submitting a story, you may:

  • use a pseudonym instead of your real name,

  • request that your name not be published,

  • ask for your face or voice to be concealed,

  • request that location details or identifying information be changed.

If Uyghurify identifies a safety risk, it may choose not to publish certain details even where the storyteller has consented to publication.

7. Your Responsibility for Submitted Content

By submitting content to Uyghurify, you confirm, to the best of your knowledge, that:

  • you have the right to share the material you submit,

  • you are not intentionally providing false or misleading information,

  • you are not infringing another person's intellectual property rights,

  • you are not unlawfully disclosing another person's private information.

Materials containing sensitive information about third parties may be subject to additional review.

Uyghurify may request further verification or authorization where necessary.

8. Correction and Removal Requests

If you believe that content published by Uyghurify contains a factual error concerning you, you may request a correction.

Storytellers who voluntarily submitted their own stories may also request changes to or removal of published content concerning them.

Such requests will be assessed by taking into account:

  • personal rights,

  • data protection,

  • freedom of expression and press,

  • public interest,

  • archival integrity,

  • the rights of third parties,

  • and applicable legal obligations.

9. Fact-Checking Content

Assessments published in Uyghurify's Fact-Checking section are based on the sources and evidence available at the time of review.

If new or more reliable evidence becomes available, the conclusion or wording of a fact-check may be updated.

Where reasonably possible, significant updates will be clearly indicated.

10. News and Third-Party Sources

Uyghurify may link to third-party sources or rely on information from third-party sources in its reporting and research.

Uyghurify is not responsible for:

  • the content of third-party websites,

  • their security,

  • their privacy practices,

  • or changes made by those third parties after publication.

The inclusion of a third-party link does not mean that Uyghurify endorses or supports that person or organization.

11. Prohibited Uses

The website may not be used for:

  • unlawful activities,

  • attempting to gain unauthorized access to the website,

  • bypassing security measures,

  • distributing malicious software,

  • attempting to identify users or storytellers whose identities have been concealed,

  • attempting to discover the identity of anonymized individuals,

  • collecting personal data without authorization,

  • using content in a misleading context,

  • harassment, threats, intimidation, or targeting individuals.

In particular, attempts to identify, publish, or disseminate the identity of a storyteller whose identity Uyghurify has concealed for safety reasons are prohibited.

12. Automated Data Collection and AI Training

Systematic copying, bulk downloading, scraping, or conversion of Uyghurify content into commercial datasets requires prior permission.

Written permission is required to use Uyghurify's original texts, images, video, audio, or other content in bulk for:

  • training artificial intelligence models,

  • creating commercial datasets,

  • or similar machine-learning purposes.

Standard indexing activities by search engines may be excluded from this restriction.

13. Availability of the Service

Uyghurify does not guarantee that the website will be continuously available or error-free.

The website or parts of it may become temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, security measures, technical failures, service provider issues, or other causes.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Uyghurify shall not be responsible for indirect losses arising from:

  • third-party websites,

  • internet or infrastructure outages,

  • misuse of website content by users,

  • unlawful acts of unauthorized third parties.

Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.

These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye.

Any disputes shall be resolved by the competent authorities and courts determined in accordance with applicable law.
